What is a Doula?

What is a Doula?

ALLY: Are you curious about what a Doula is?

BRITTANY: We will tell you!

ALLY: The word “doula” comes from the ancient Greek meaning, ‘A woman who serves’ and is now referred as one who provides continuous support emotionally, mentally, physically, spiritually, as well as continuous informational support to mothers, families before, during, and after childbirth.

BRITTANY: Families are empowered to make the birth choice they desire, which we provide full support for. Mothers are empowered to trust your body. We are not here to take over your partners’ role, but to provide guidance and encouragement. Your birth, YOUR WAY.

ALLY: A birth is an experience that the family will always remember and cherish. A doula’s role is to make your birthing experience as comfortable as possible, so that you can focus on bringing your baby earthside!

BRITTANY: Doulas will never leave your side, and will be your continuous support.  We understand how the body works, and the emotional needs of a mom in labor.

ALLY: Research has shown that by having a doula,

BRITTANY: women are likely to have vaginal birth,

ALLY: less likely to have main medication,

BRITTANY: less likely to have negative feelings toward childbirth

ALLY: and having a doula shortens labor time

BRITTANY: and helps birth partners participate with confidence

ALLY & BRITTANY: THAT’s what doulas are for. THAT’s us!
