Placenta

The placenta is...

The ultimate provider of love and nourishment to your baby inside the womb. An incredible organ that brings life to a growing child, connecting you to your child throughout pregnancy. The essence of our being. Bodies are amazing. Magical and remarkable.

The placenta is the only transient organ in the body (meaning it grows then leaves) that grows in a short period of time and is disposable once it's out of the womb. The placenta belongs to both the birthing person and the fetus. It functions as multiple organs in one: acts as the baby’s lungs by providing oxygen from the birthing person, as its kidneys by filtering out waste products, as its gastrointestinal and immune system by delivering nutrients and antibodies, and so much more. The placenta is what allows the little one to grow to a healthy size before birth.
